Gratitude, Family & Home Ecology

Resting yesterday has made today easier. May it snowball with today's rest.

I figure after all that complaining I should get around to writing thank you notes to everyone who's brought food and such. No better time to count one's blessings than a down moment. Manana fer sher.

The sonogram said the 22nd, the due date is the 30th. We'll see. I've settled into the waiting game, shed my impatience, and am finally beginning to just calm down. Not feeling so well and being tired probably help. Strange but true.

I'm about 1/3 through Ilium, which rocks, finished Happiest Baby, which I think I have to buy. It may be one of the best written and most validating and supportive baby books I've seen. I'm about to review Dr. Sears, who I went with the for the first two, and explore the formerly assumed evil Dr. Ferber. I'm thinking some happy medium must be possible.

T is working out after a run with the kids on bikes. I'm jealous, but glad he's doing it. It really makes him happier, which is good for all of us!

I'm teaching the kids how to crochet granny squares. They're so cute. K treats it like long division. It makes her squirmy.

Mom took them to the mall today, where, as K put it, they became victims of window shopping. They were both fairly desperate for shoes, and got some cute ones, as well as a few outfits. A good time was had by all. And Ruby spent the day at the groomer, so she's gorgeous and exhausted from play. The groomers have a poodle puppy of their own now, so it was a poodle fest. Ruby's cut way down. We're calling her Foxy Brown.

And last but not least I've discovered two new good things about gdiapers. One is that the covers can take cloth inserts, just for variety, and the other is the peepee inserts are compostable. Wahoo! That just seals the deal. Less flushing will save water and be less taxing on the pipes, and the composter we've been meaning to buy just got bumped up on the list. It's the Earth Machine. Quite reasonable, even with shipping. They use them at the Clinton Community Garden in NYC, where I was on the steering committee for awhile. They were chosen because even the smaller women (with busy schedules) could handle them, and they're rodent-proof.

That's another big step in the direction of the raised garden beds next year, as T has all but conquered the irrigation. It's going to have to go on hold while he preps hurricane boards...
